The end of a school year brings goodbyes but it also brings a transition of power within our student government. Next year’s recently elected 2018-2019 class officer team is a tight knit group. They have been together since their middle school days and have promised to make their senior class stand out from the rest. Their unity as a team stems from their closeness as friends; which is where it all started. Now, as they approach the finish line, they plan on spending their last moments of their high school careers making memories together. In efforts to have a memorable senior year, the senior class officers are planning big things for next year’s class. Alexander Baldomero, our upcoming Senior Class President, says “We are extremely excited for what is to come, and we can’t wait for all of our ideas to become a reality. It’s going to be great!”

Throughout the interview the senior class officers emphasized that the cornerstone of their agenda for the upcoming year will be prom. Although they would not disclose next year’s prom theme, Senior Class Secretary, Ana Garcia said that “it will be unlike anything Braddock has ever seen before.” She added, “I think the theme will be a timeless classic that everyone will be able to enjoy.” By the looks of it, their goal for next year is to have all other events such as senior picnic and senior brunch coincide and relate to each other, cumulating with prom . As this year comes to a close, all of the future officers are anxiously awaiting next year so that they can carry out the ideas that are in the works. Javier Fernandez, the Senior Class Treasurer, wrapped up the interview with this heartfelt comment, “We want to make our senior year unforgettable so that we can all look back and reminisce to the great times we had at Braddock.” Besides their great ideas, next year’s student government is set apart by their uncommon majority of male officers. It will be interesting to see how their different perspectives will influence the execution of the agenda.

The senior class officers are not the only group putting forth their maximum efforts to make next year worthwhile. The recently elected student government officers, which consist of four other upcoming seniors, aspire to make the year eventful for all classes. Their goal is to be a voice for the entire student body and to focus on the enhancement of school spirit. They plan on organizing pep rallies that unite the students and encourage them to become more involved in the school’s community. Student Government President, Sheila Bolanos, explained that she “…is very involved in extracurricular activities so representing the student body is a perfect job for her.” She added, “I honestly feel like many people go to school just to go to school. I want students to be able to make the most out of their high school experience; that is my number one goal as Student Government President.” Bolaños and her officers also expressed that they want next year’s homecoming to be the event that sparks the most school spirit.

Student Government Vice President, Abigail Rodriguez, stated that “Homecoming next year will be one of Braddock’s largest events and we are hoping that we can rally up all of the student body in an attempt to express an immense amount of school spirit.” She also added that one of the group’s major goals is to live up to this year’s quota for homecoming ticket sales. Due to the efforts of Nicole Caldera, the outgoing Student Government Council was able to sell out their homecoming, and Braddock’s new officers strive to do the same. Abigail’s beliefs and focus, along with those of the other members of student government, are to push for the largest amount of school spirit possible. They believe, as Student Government Secretary, Sofia Castro said, “…school spirit is a strong force which brings everyone together.”

One thing’s for sure next years senior student officers aren’t like anything you’ve seen before. These two tight groups are coming together to enhance the high school experience at Braddock. Their work ethic is already in motion, you’ve probably already seen them distributing yearbooks and cap and gowns in the activities office.
