Hurricane Irma impacted Florida greatly, causing delays in our day to day living routine. As a result of Irma, MDCPS has eliminated all early release days and two teacher planning days.
Students may feel unsatisfied about the verdict our Superintendent Alberto Cavallo, issued but Broward County Public Schools got the worst of it. In a statement issued on December 5th students, teachers, and parents received news that their summer vacation would end sooner than they expected. Broward County students will return to school from summer break; a week earlier than expected. After a unanimous vote, the school board proclaimed that BCPS will begin on August 15th. However, their end of school date will remain the same.
In the same statement, Broward County announced they will be making several changes to their calendar for the upcoming school year. Some alterations include changes in recess days, teacher planning days, and early release days. Even though their summer is cut short by a week, Broward County schools now have emergency days that can be used in case of another natural disaster. If there were another natural disaster, the new changes will result in BCPS teachers and students getting back on track with the MDCPS school calendar.
